In a bid to augment economic co-operation between Canada and India, the Canadian government today opened its trade office in Ahmedabad.

“This new trade office will help bring us closer to our goal of doubling our two-way trade with India over the next five years to reach $ 10 billion annually,” Canadian minister of international trade and Asia-Pacific gateway, Stockwell Day said after the inaugration of the office.

"This will also provide market intelligence and expert advice to help Candian companies to invest in India," Day added

"The new office will boost the trade between the two countries," said Narendra Modi, chief minister, Gujarat.

The bilateral trade between Canada and India reached $4.6 billion in December 2008, which was up 22.5 per cent over 2007. Day also said that co-operation between Indian and Canada in the nuclear energy sector has good potential.
