The restructuring of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is likely to bring in an additional tax collection of Rs 2,500 crore from those who have stopped filing their income tax returns, and another Rs 6,000 crore from speedy disposal of pending assessments.
Further, increase in the number of first appellate authorities and tax recovery officers is expected to contribute Rs 7,500 crore to the tax-kitty, said sources. Early issue of refunds will reduce the interest burden by Rs 350 crore per annum, they added.
The whole exercise is set to enhance the tax department
