The Central Board of Direct Taxes today said it has received certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards demonstrating its ability to provide effective and efficient services.

"The CBDT and the Income Tax Department have received certification under IS 15700:2005 from the BIS for excellence in public delivery systems," CBDT said in a release.

The certification follows an audit of the Directorate of Organisation and Management Services (DOMS) and the Aayakar Sewa Kendra (ASK) unit at Pune.

DOMS is the nodal agency for implementation of the Sevottam scheme, a single window system for income tax payers, while ASK is billed as a one-stop computerised centre for taxpayers to obtain services promised by the I-T department in its Citizens’ Charter in a time-bound manner.

The IS 15700:2005 certification is given to public service organisations, which demonstrate their ability to consistently provide effective and efficient services to customers while meeting legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.

The CBDT is responsible for collection of direct taxes, which include corporate tax and personal income tax.
