The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has allocated individual direct tax collection targets for all its major zones, including separate targets for banking cash transaction tax (BCTT) and securities transaction tax (STT). |
It is for the first time that the CBDT has segregated targets into corporate, personal, BCTT and STT categories for its various CCITs (chief commissioners of income tax). |
Until now, the CBDT used to allocate only a combined direct tax collection target to the CCITs. |
Mumbai's total collection target is the highest at Rs 69,548 crore. Of this, Rs 46,828 crore has been set for corporate tax, Rs 18,998 crore for personal tax (inclusive of fringe benefit tax), Rs 3,474 crore for STT and Rs 247 crore for BCTT. |
Officials said the revenue potential of different regions, along with collections under various heads in 2005-06, has been kept in mind while setting the target for each CCIT. |
Over 95 per cent of the total STT mop-up is expected to be raised from Mumbai. The target for Ahmedabad is just Rs 7 crore, for Chennai and Kolkata around Rs 6 crore each, and for Bangalore around Rs 3.5 crore. |
The BCTT target for Bangalore has been pegged at Rs 65 crore, while for Delhi it is Rs 52 crore. The BCTT target for Hyderabad is Rs 33 crore, for Chennai Rs 29 crore, for Kolkata Rs 23 crore, and for Pune Rs 11 crore. |
The second highest corporate tax collection target is Delhi's, at Rs 24,100 crore, followed by Meerut at Rs 12,210 crore and Bangalore at Rs 11,334 crore. |
The personal income tax collection targets (inclusive of the FBT) have been pegged at Rs 9,493 crore for Delhi, Rs 8,230 crore for Bangalore, Rs 4,200 crore for Chandigarh and Rs 3,741 for Ahmedabad. |
The CBDT has also allocated its internal arrears collection target of Rs 11,741 crore among the various regions, with Delhi having the highest target of Rs 3,799 crore, followed by Mumbai at Rs 2,469 crore and Kolkata at Rs 1,213 crore. |
