The Central Bureau of Investigation today arrested T S Darbari, the former joint director general and Sanjay Mahendroo, former deputy director general, of the Commonwealth Games’ Organising Committee today.

A CBI statement said, “The accused persons caused huge loss to the Government of India and corresponding wrongful gain to the accused firms.” It says it searched their homes and found “incriminating documents”. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the two officials, AM Films UK, a London-based firm dealing in audio-visual equipment and AM Car and Van Hire, London.

“It is alleged that the accused officials, in conspiracy with the London-based private firms, awarded the work of installation of video screens at the venue of the Queen’s Baton Relay, at exorbitant rates. The work was awarded purportedly on the basis of fake quotations and without following the standard procedure,” the CBI said.

The Enforcement Directorate is also looking into the matter. The OC had, in August, dismissed the two officials and M Jayachandran, joint director general (accounts and finance).
