The Central Bureau of Investigation has intensified its inquiry against Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the Emaar Group by reportedly questioning as many as 13 people, including government officials, on Wednesday.

These include home department principal secretary BP Acharya, who earlier worked as chairman & managing director of AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), and a company secretary of Jagathi Publications promoted by Jagan.

Chief secretary SV Prasad said the questioning by the CBI did not necessarily meant interrogation. He also said the investigative agency was in fact taking the assistance of several officials in understanding the decisions taken in the past. A team of CBI officials also met TS Appa Rao, principal secretary, Industries and Commerce, in this connection.

The CBI received a further boost on Wednesday with the Supreme Court refusing to interfere in the Jagan case. The apex court rejected the special leave petition filed last week by Jagan, who sought stopping of the ongoing investigation against him.

About eight teams — six in Jagan case and two in Emaar case — are examining persons and documents apart from conducting further searches in Hyderabad.
