The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided residences of three commissioners of customs, as also their offices housed at the eastern regional headquarters at Customs House on Strand Road.

The anti-corruption wing of CBI zeroed in on an additional commissioner, a deputy commissioner and a joint commissioner on charges of abuse of their official position in an import case.

The sleuths of the CBI began raid in the wee hours of today following a complaint that the three officials had allegedly abused their position to undervalue import consignment of a Delhi-based businessman.

A CBI source said the customs officials, in connivance with a city-based customs clearing agent, undervalued a consignment of button battery cells. The undervaluation caused loss of Rs 1 crore to the government exchequer.

Till now, the raids discovered assets of properties which were not proportionate with the officials
