CCEA nod for scope-widening of NE road project

The Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs today gave its approval to enlarge the scope of a road development programme for the North East. Under this, another 994 kms of road will be built in the region, taking the total size of the first phase of the programme to 2,304 km. The Special Accelerated Road Programme for North East (SARDP-NE) programme is divided into three phases.

The CCEA approved funding of Rs 4,673 crore as gross budgetary support for the programme. This will involve four laning of 330 kms of National Highway 44 in Tripura on cash contract basis. It also gave approval to modify the scope the second phase of SARDP-NE to cover 6,433 km of roads, and approved preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for the additional roads now included in Phase 'B'. Earlier, under this phase 2,141 km of roads were to be upgraded.

The CCEA has also athorised the Department of Road Transport and Highways (DORTH) to decide about engagement of implementation agencies for various roads under modified SARDP
