The team headed by Col U B Singh inspected various areas in the high-profile constituency and enquired into the complaints of discrepancies in the implementation of the scheme.
The inspection comes in the wake of Congress president and constituency MP Sonia Gandhi expressing reservation over the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
Singh, who met rural people, pradhans and other members involved in the implementation as well as the state government officials, told PTI that he toured the areas extensively to look into various aspects. "In the preliminary investigations, documentation has been found as very poor," Singh said, adding that muster rolls and measurement books have not been filled as per the norms.
"Bricks being used in the construction work are also of second grade and some samples have been collected and will be sent to the nominated institutes for examination," he said.
On complaints that ponds dug under the scheme were found empty by Gandhi, he said that they have been filled since then but there are certain irregularities in the earth work and at places it has been found that the depth is half of what has been shown in records.
