Centre approves Rs 8,500-cr plan spend for Uttarakhand

The planning commission today approved the annual plan size for Uttarakhand at Rs 8,500 crore for 2013-14.

At a meeting in New Delhi, the deputy chairman of the planning commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia gave his nod to the plan size proposed by Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna. Bahuguna had given a presentation on the various schemes launched.

The hallmark of this year's plan size was the hill state would get a special plan assistance of Rs 300 crore and special central assistance of Rs 700 crore, Principal Secretary (Finance) Rakesh Sharma said.

Last year, the plan size was Rs 8,200 crore.
 

Bahuguna also demanded clearances to all the scrapped hydel projects which he said would give boost to the power sector.

Bahuguna also demanded 100 per cent financial help from the Centre for all the centrally-funded infrastructure projects in the border areas of the state. He also demanded special funds for the protection of forests and wildlife.

Ahluwalia told Bahuguna the state make a separate presentation for the development of Tehri lake area, for which, according to Sharma, funds will be given.
