Following remarks made during the hearings in Supreme Court about the conduct of Bihar Governor Buta Singh, government circles predicted that Singh's tenure as governor would have to be cut short.

The apex court today made remarks that were critical of the manner in which Raj Bhavans were becoming playthings of politicians. However, these remarks were made in the context of ongoing arguments. The Supreme Court is hearing a case involving Singh's recommending dissolution of Bihar Assembly.

Today, the Centre defended Buta Singh saying that he acted with 'propriety' and 'fairness' to preserve the purity of the political process.
