The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Union ministry of power, has agreed to provide financial assistance to the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department of Andhra Pradesh for effective implementation of the proposed Energy Conservation Building (ECB) code.

The ECB code was proposed to achieve the targeted energy savings in large buildings like shopping malls, multiplexes, and sky-scraper commercial and residential buildings having a load of more than 100 kilowatt.

In an interaction with SK Joshi, principal secretary of MA&UD, BEE director-general Ajay Mathur said apart from financial assistance, BEE would extend the required technical support for the successful implementation of the ECB code, which was expected to be notified by the Andhra Pradesh government in November 2013.

This decision was in response to the letter written by Joshi to BEE for technical and financial support for the empanelment of consultants or consultancy firms for the AP ECB code compliance, capacity building of empanelment firms for standardisation of the implementation of the ECB code practices and capacity building of town planning officials across Andhra Pradesh.
