The Union Government slackening the norms for construction of roads in the forest area had propelled the Chhattisgarh government to design action plan for constructing roads in the Naxal-infested pockets.
The Centre had simplified the relevant section of the Forest Conservation Act 1980 for granting approval for the road construction.
As per the simplified procedure, the approval for construction of two-lane highways on forestland would be granted by state government itself. The simplification of clearance procedure would help the authorities to prepare a work-plan for constructing roads in the interior areas of the 10 districts that had been affected by the Left Wing Extremism (LWE).
