The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has released around Rs 153.46 crore during the last five years targeted at various renewable energy programmes in Tamil Nadu.
New and Renewable Energy minister, Farooq Abdullah, said in Rajya Sabha recently that the ministry had been supporting the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency for the deployment of renewable energy.
In Tamil Nadu, 7,162 Megawatt (Mw) of wind power, 547 Mw of bio- power, 123 Mw small hydro and 17 Mw solar power projects have been set up. Besides, about 37.2 Mw off-grid renewable energy system has been installed.
The ministry is extending both technical and financial support for the implementation of various schemes of wind, solar, bio-energy and small hydro projects, he added.Apart from supporting R&D in academic institutions, the ministry had set up a dedicated centre for wind energy technology in the state.
