The Centre is expected to hold a high-level meeting in the third week of this month to discuss the power sector problems in Andhra Pradesh, according to an energy department release. The meeting is expected to be attended by senior officials of the key departments and state chief secretary P K Mohanthy would make a presentation on the issue, it said.
It may be recalled that the state had undergone the worst-ever power crisis that saw the growth in industrial output fall to less than 1 per cent in the last financial year. The industrial sector was one of the worst sufferers of the supply-demand mismatch aggravated by the idling of gas-power plants.
In this meeting, the state would pitch for allocation of assured quota of natural gas as well as coal for improving generation to overcome short-term shortages. The chief secretary would also explain the long-term measures in terms of capacity additions among other things being proposed by the government.
