Estimates say the collection may go up from Rs 1,000 cr to Rs 21,000 crore
The Union government expects to increase its excise collection from the textile sector from around Rs 1,000 crore now to a whopping Rs 21,000 crore after the introduction of central value-added tax (Cenvat). This is despite the tax rate being lowered from 12 per cent to 10 per cent.
