Power regulator Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is expected to declare the new electricity tariff regulations for five years next month.

"The new tariff regulations to be applicable for five years will be out in December," a senior CERC official told PTI.

The regulations of terms and conditions of tariffs for 2009-14 would be designed to minimise micro management and lead to light-touch regulation.

However, the official declined to comment any further.

CERC recently sought information on technical parameters from all power generating firms in order to ascertain the future demand for transmission services.

CERC has asked the generating companies to coordinate with the central and state transmission utilities for transmission of the electricity generated by it.

To facilitate the implementation of the provisions, CERC in its order dated June 4, 2008 had demanded the power generating companies to furnish the technical details in a notified format at least three years prior to the projected date of commissioning of first unit of the power station.

CERC would soon open its doors for an Inter-State Open Access system to procure power as part of measures to improve the energy crisis prevailing in Tamil Nadu. By procuring power from other states, Tamil Nadu would be able to manage the power crisis.
