The CESC’s request was sent to all industrialists by the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industries

Industrial activities in Mysore are likely to be hit with the Chamundeswari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) asking industrialists to use power supplied by the CESC only for lighting, for nearly two months.

In a letter issued here, the CESC has asked all industrialists and EHT consumers to use power for lighting alone from February 21 to April 15, between 7 pm and 10 pm. This request comes from CESC Chief Engineer (Elec) in view of the examinations scheduled to be held during the period. It has sent the appeal to all industrialists and EHT consumers. The CESC’s request was sent to all industrialists by the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) too.

MCCI Vice-President A S Satish told Business Standard today that the CESC had convened a meeting of industrialists about a fortnight ago and had explained the difficult situation in power supply position and appealed to them to co-operate with the CESC to manage the load by staying only on lighting.

Industrialists were also briefed on the reduced power allocation to Mysore in view of the shutdown of some units at Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPL) and also the CESC’s need to maintain power supply in the evenings for students in view of examinations and for farmers in its jurisdiction. They were told, it may take about three months for the situation to improve after repairs at RTPL and CESC would inform industrialists once the situation improved, Satish said.

Promising to co-operate, the industrialists have asked CESC to ensure power supply during the remaining hours so that they were not affected by power cuts.

On the likely impact, Satish said, the CESC’s direction may not impact industries much because of the present economic scenario. In view of fall in demand for their products, some industries had even resorted to lay-offs.
