Chamling submits resignation, stakes claim to form next govt

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling today submitted resignation of his council of ministers to Governor B P Singh and staked claim to form the next government.     

The Governor accepted the resignation and asked the Chief Minister to continue in his post till the formation of the next government.     

Singh invited Chamling to form the next government on the basis of the majority being enjoyed by the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front.     

The SDF had swept the recently-concluded polls in Sikkim winning all 32 assembly and the lone Lok Sabha seats.     

The swearing-in ceremony of the SDF government will take place at 9:45 AM tomorrow, Raj Bhavan officials said, adding that the preparations for the function in this regard was going on in full swing.     

 

Meanwhile, the seventh legislative assembly stood dissolved with effect from today to pave the way for the constitution of the eighth assembly, a home department notificaiton said.
