Retains all the Cabinet members of the previous BJP government headed by Nishank.

New Uttarakhand Chief Minister Major General (retired) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri today vowed to fight corruption and said BJP would get a thumping majority in the coming Assembly elections in the hill state next year.

“Fighting corruption will be my top priority,” said Khanduri soon after he was sworn in as the new chief minister of the hill state along with 11 cabinet members. He also expressed confidence that he would work with renewed vigour and enthusiasm to bring BJP back to power in the next Assembly elections. “All of us will work closely so that BJP wins the next Assembly elections with a thumping majority,” said Khanduri.

He also maintained that there were no differences in the state party and that all the leaders were united to face the elections.

Khanduri was sworn in as the sixth chief minister of the hill state at a simple ceremony at Rangers College ground here.

Governor Margaret Alva administered oath of office and secrecy to Khanduri along with 11 cabinet members. The ceremony was attended by top BJP leaders including former BJP president Rajnath Singh.

Significantly, Khanduri retained all the cabinet members of the previous BJP government headed by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, who earlier in the day handed over his resignation to Alva. Soon after Nishank handed over his resignation, Khanduri was elected as a new leader of the ruling BJP legislature party unanimously.

In 2007, Khanduri had faced stiff opposition from the Bhagat Singh Koshiyari camp when he was being elected as the leader of the legislature party. But now, both Khanduri and Koshiyari have sunk their differences and joined hands in what turned out to be a concerted campaign against Nishank.
