Chandrashekar wins RS poll with highest votes

As expected, entrepreneur and promoter of Jupiter Capital, Rajeev Chandrashekar, won the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka by bagging the highest number of votes - 53 - today.

Chandrashekar, who contested as an independent backed by JD (S) and BJP, defeated noted Kannada litterateur Dr U R Ananthamurthy. The Jnanapith award recipient could manage to secure 24 votes though he was backed by Congress.

The official candidates of JD (S), Congress and BJP too won the polls comfortably. While Congress candidate K Rehman Khan secured 50 votes, JD (S) candidate M Rajashekaramurthy bagged 49 votes. As many as 47 votes were polled in favour of BJP
