Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath today said the government was reviewing the norms under Press Note 18 in order to remove its restrictive provisions and provide a level playing field to investors. |
"The government intends to be as less restrictive as possible and provide a level playing field to investors. Investment policies should not be restrictive... there are some aberrations, other than some individual cases there are no objections to this," Nath told reporters here. |
While the finance ministry is in favour of scrapping the Note, the commerce and industry ministry, which handles the policy on foreign direct investment, is of the view that it should be continued with minor changes. |
