Corporate governance (CG) and the responsibility of the corporates towards the society in the form of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has assumed great importance in the global corporate arena today with some of the big corporates redefining these parameters to achieve greater profitability or just for the hallowed effect sometimes.

Speaking at the 8th Sir Jehangir Ghandy Memorial Lecture organised by Calcutta Management Association, Kishore A Chaukar, managing director of Tata Industries, highlighted the role of CG and the leadership of a dedicated CEO behind any successful organisation.

Chaukar pointed out CG and CSR should ideally be seen as investments and not as expenditure because these would give returns over a period of time in the form of greater brand goodwill.

Speaking about the house of Tata, he said Tata Industries continued to be inspired by the late JRD Tata and now Ratan Tata to undertake community service and serve society.
