Chernin Group, founded by former News Corp COO Peter Chernin, today announced the launch of a company 'CA Media' to build and manage media, entertainment and technology businesses across Asia.
Headquartered in Hong Kong, CA Media will "strategically build, manage and operate media, entertainment and technology businesses throughout Asia" with a specific initial focus on India, China and Indonesia, Chernin Group said in a global statement.
CA Media intends to focus on a broad range of opportunities in content creation (specifically film and TV production), television networks, sports, education, advertising and digital media, it added.
Peter Chernin would serve as the Chairman of CA Media, while ex-CEO of STAR Group Paul Aiello (another founding shareholder of CA Media) will be CEO.
"We see tremendous opportunity across Asia, but particularly in India, China, and Indonesia. In Asia, there is less distinction between 'traditional media' and 'new media'," Chernin said.
Nearly everything is growing and that allows for more robust prospects across the industry, which is enormously exciting, he added.
In addition to The Chernin Group and Aiello, the initial investors include Allen & Company LLC, Brookside Capital (an affiliate of Bain Capital), Gordon Crawford and Kimberly Querrey, among others.
The Chernin Group manages, operates and invests in businesses in the media, entertainment and technology sectors.
