Chhattisgarh government has imposed a ban on the use of mobile phones by teachers and students in all government and private schools in the state.

The decision was taken after the Rajya Sabha's committee on petitions concerned over the endless and often loud conversations on mobile phones in schools, a senior official with state's education department said. Senior officials studied the contents of the petition that prayed for imposition of reasonable restrictions on the use of mobile phones as there were reports of cell phones being misused by students, teachers in schools/colleges and other educational institutions.

After studying all aspects, William Kujur, deputy secretary with the department of school education, issued the order to impose the ban, the official said.

Besides phone calls, there were complaints that the mobile phones with camera facilities were being misused.
