Chhattisgarh government would formulate a new policy for installing mobile service towers in the State.

The move is aimed at checking illegal installation of mobile towers. In the state capital itself, 140 of the total 303 mobile service towers were installed without permission from the authorities. Telecom operators had been installing towers before getting permission from the local civic bodies. Once authorities serve notice, the operators have begun regularising the illegal towers by paying requisite fee.

The State Government has now decided to take a stand on the norms set for the installation of mobile service towers and planned new policies to the effect.

Under the new policy, the state government would make it mandatory for the telecom operators to obtain clearances and permission before installing towers, state urban development minister Rajesh Munat said.
