About 92 villages in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district will witness to the “new green revolution” with the state government giving green signal for constructing a barrage.
The irrigation project board of the state government gave its nod to the Arpa-Bhaisajhar barrage project in Bilaspur district. The meeting was chaired by chief minister Raman Singh and attended by senior ministers and officials.
“The estimated cost of the project is Rs 606.43 crore,” a senior official with the irrigation department said. The tender for the project would be floated soon and the work on the ambitious project would get started at the earliest, he added. The Arpa-Bhaisajhar project would help about 92 villages to meet the water required for irrigation, the official said, adding that more than 100,000 farmers would be benefitted once the barrage was constructed. In all, the barrage would irrigate 25,000 hectare of area during kharif season, he added.
“The barrage would expand the green revolution in Konta, Takhatpur and Bilha area of Bilaspur district,” Chief Minister Raman Singh said. The project would bring prosperity for the farmers in the region, he added.
The Arpa-Bhaisajhar barrage project was pending for approval for the last many years. The state government finally removed the dust and gave its nod to the project. Singh said he had directed the officials to start the work at the earliest and complete it within the stipulated time.
