The Chhattisgarh government received another jolt in its ambitious Kamal Vihar project as the High Court had stayed any form of construction on the land owned by more than a dozen people coming under the project area.
Kamal Vihar, an ambitious township project, would come up at the outskirts of the capital city in the line of modern housing projects in Chandigarh, Noida and Ahmedabad. The township will be set up in eight sectors in a sprawling 16,500 acres of land. Raipur Development Authority (RDA) will execute the project.
As part of the first phase, work on sector 4 was to start in 2100 acres of land. The RDA had made a budgetary allocation of Rs 1100 crore to set the project on roll. The local people are however opposing the project and warned that they will now allow the government to acquire their land.
As many as 13 land holders moved a petition in the Chhattisgarh High Court seeking stay in the project. The matter came up for hearing on Wednesday in the single bench of Justice Satish Agnihotri. The court ordered to stay any form of construction on the land possessed by 12 petitioners. The High Court had earlier stayed construction in the land of Rajendra Shukla.With on Wednesday’s order, High Court had stayed construction on the entire land possessed by the 13 petitioners. Each petitioner holds on average 25 acres of land in the project site. The next date of hearing has been posted for September 29.
