A committee of the Chhattisgarh Assembly will probe the sensational infant selling case from an ashram run by a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) at the outskirts of the state capital. A local news channel, through a string operation, exposed the incident while the ashram director Narayan Rao was negotiating for selling an infant for Rs 2.50 lakh without completing the required administrative formalities.
Police have arrested Rao under Section 372 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) while the ashram have been sealed.
The issue rocked the Assembly on Thursday when the members of the main opposition party, the Congress, raised the matter through a calling attention motion. The members alleged that the ashram director had been indulging in illegal activities such as selling children without seeking permission from the administration.
"The way Rao indulged in illegal activities, one should not have any doubt that another Nithari (Ghaziabad) case was in the offing in Chhattisgarh," Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey said.
