Chhattisgarh is exploring the possibility of drawing investment from Uttarakhand in the food processing and herbal industries.
Both the states were born in November 2000. This is for the first time that a high level delegation led by Chief Minister Raman Singh visited Uttarakhand to sell the Chhattisgarh brand and attract local industrialists. The event was organised under the banner of Uttarakhand Udyog Sangh.
“We have invited industrialists from Uttarakhand to visit Chhattisgarh and see the infrastructure development that has taken place in the state,” Singh said. After visiting the state, he is sure that the mindset of industrialists (towards the state) will change and they will explore the possibility of investing, he added.
The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister told the Uttarakhand industrialists that the state would not promote investment in the core sectors such as cement, steel, aluminium and power as the saturation point has already been reached. “The state was now considering supporting the micro, small, medium enterprises,” Singh said.
According to industry department officials, a detailed presentation was given to Uttarakhand industrialists to highlight the salient features of the state. Since Chhattisgarh has sufficient production of foodgrain and forest produce, the state was giving priority to the small and medium industries for drawing investment in food and herbal processing, pharmaceutical to add value to the produce.
The officials said the move was a preliminary step to attract investors from Uttarakhand as the state government had just briefed them about the ‘product’ and now it was up to the industrialists to examine the feasibility and invest.
