Chhattisgarh lawmakers including the chief minister and the ministers would make their property public by disclosing their assets.

Chief Minister Raman Singh today announced in the Legislative Assembly that he, along with his ministerial colleagues and the legislators of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), would disclose the details of the property they own.

"The move is aimed to bring transparency at every level of the government," Singh said. The property details of all ministers, including chief minister and the legislators of the ruling party, would be tabled in the Assembly, the chief minister said.

All the ministers and the BJP legislators were unanimous on the decision and agreed to make their property public, Singh added.

Since the initiative came from the ruling party, the main opposition party--Congress--was also quick to swing into action. "The members of the Congress legislature party will also disclose the property details in the House," Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey said.
