Chhattisgarh government is mooting a proposal to convert all the major roads within the state to four-lane ones.

Sources in the public works department said that the government was planning to convert Raipur-Jagdalpur National Highway (NH)-6, Raipur-Bilaspur, Simga-Chilfi and Bilaspur-Saraipali (upto Orissa) border to four-lane ones.

Besides, the government had identified 14 roads measuring about 2,000 km to be declared as state highways and 5,200 km of 242 rural roads as district roads. The roads would be developed under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

A number of villages located by the sides of the proposed roads would be affected by the projects. The department is conducting surveys to ensure minimum displacement by proposing by-pass roads, sources added.

The department has proposed to build eight new over-bridges in various parts of the state.
