The Chhattisgarh state planning commission had approved state’s annual plan worth Rs 34,715 crore for the financial year 2016-17.
The proposal was approved at the state planning commission meeting held Monday that was presided over by Chief Minister Raman Singh. A detailed presentation was given before the approval of the final draft of the annual plan 2016-17, a state government spokesperson said. The outlay had given focus on the agriculture sector with special stress on increasing the irrigation potential in the state.
The officials said that the proposals include improvement in irrigation facilities, increase in agricultural production, up-gradation and extension of network of roads, education, health, curbing malnutrition and other crucial issues. The expansion of road network covering the pockets hit by the left wing extremism had also been high on the Raman Singh government’s agenda for the coming days.

Singh said after the state planning commission meeting that the state government was committed for the development and welfare of the person standing last in the row of the society. He added that the interests of the farmers would be protected by enhancing the irrigation potential and a campaign would be launched to increase the food production by rapidly developing the agriculture sector.
A large number of annicuts have been constructed over canals and rivers, Singh said, adding that under an action plan, solar-energy pumps would be promoted for the farmers having field by the river-canal sides so that they could use the water for irrigation.
