As part of his initiative to tone up internal security, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today discussed various measures with Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor and some other senior officials of his ministry.
General Kapoor is understood to have briefed Chidambaram on internal security scenario and the steps that should be taken to plug loopholes in checking terror activities.
Sources said the Army chief explained the prevailing situation and apprised him of the steps being taken by the force.
Ever since Chidambaram took over the charge of home ministry about a month back, he has been talking to service chiefs to ensure better coordination among various wings of security machinery.
Last week, Chidambaram had a meeting with Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta and discussed coastal security measures in the wake of Mumbai attacks where terrorists had taken the sea route.
The home minister has also discussed the coastal security measures with top brass of Coast guard.
The home ministry is laying special emphasise on strengthening security along the 7,516 km long coastline.
