With a little over a month for the Commonwealth Games to begin, the Delhi police will take over the sporting venues from September 7 and the Ministry of Home Affairs would conduct a detailed security review again on September 15.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Home Minister P Chidambaram said the security overlays in the games clusters will be completed by September 15. He also said security agencies would start carrying out mock drills at the venues. Chidambaram blamed the delay in completion of the infrastructure for the delay in security arrangements.
While the police and paramilitary forces will be in charge of the four-tier security around the Games’ venues, the army would provide back-up.
The minister met security experts in the Home Ministry, Delhi Police, National Security Guards (NSG) and intelligence agencies and was briefed on the security measures that would be taken during the Games.
