A Rs 15-crore residential school, modeled on the concept of 'Ekalavya' schools, at Sollepura tribal settlement and a Rs 9 crore Morarji Desai residential school in K Belathru village will be declared open on June 28 in HD Kote taluk of Mysore district by Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah.

He will also lay foundation for the Rs 1.41-crore centre of excellence of palm cultivation under the national farm expansion scheme of the horticultural sector at Bheemanakolli, where the horticulture department has set up a demonstration farm on about 80 hectares to educate farmers on palm cultivation and also a garden on about 20 hectares for development of second generation palm seedlings under the oil palm development programme in the Bheemanakolli horticultural farm.

The Karnataka government is offering subsidy for palm cultivation over a period of three years to promote increased cultivation of the hybrid variety. It is also providing subsidy for setting up palm oil extraction plants in the state. As each palm tree starts bearing fruit from the third year onwards and continue for about 35 years, investment in palm cultivation, hence, is low.

The chief minister will also commission a multi-village drinking water supply scheme among others.
