The growth rate was faster than that for per-capita disposable income of urbanites, NBS sources said.

Based on a sample survey covering 68,000 households, NBS said the real growth was 10.3 per cent after deducting price changes.

The per capita disposable income of urban population rose 14.4 per cent or 6.3 per cent in real terms to 8,065 Yuan during the period, official Xinhua news agency said quoting NBS sources.

The income earned by farmers by engaging in non-farming jobs averaged 785 Yuan, a 19.3 per cent jump, it said.

Farmers gained 1,080 Yuan per capita from selling agricultural products, up 22.1 per cent and earned 336 Yuan per capita from running business, a 10.5 per cent increase, the NBS said.

China's Consumer Price Index (CPI), the barometer of inflation, rose 7.9 per cent in the first half. CPI had hit a 12-year monthly high of 8.7 per cent in February.

China has vowed to maintain the CPI at 4.8 per cent this year.
