The state-run City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) today indicated that the request for qualification (RFQ) for the Navi Mumbai international will be issued in January and not by end of December as projected earlier.

The time is required for the completion of joint surveys undertaken by CIDCO and project affected villagers in the 17 villages. After these surveys the consent award for 371 hectare of land yet to be acquired will be given and thereafter the allotment of 22.5% developed land to project affected persons (PAPs) will be made.

Further, CIDCO has stepped up efforts to take on board PAPs from Pargaon, Dungi, Kohli, Ovla and Upper Ovla villages who have opposed the state government's compensation package announced last month.

The package envisages 22.5% developed land, 1 floor space index (FSI) for 12.5% developed land and 2.5% FSI for another 10% developed land. PAPs will get three times more land to the current residential plot which they have occupied.

CIDCO vice chairman and managing director Sanjay Bhatia told Business Standard '' Currently, joint surveys for the houses in which the PAPs are staying is underway. Besides, the survey of eligibility of those from PAPs who will be provided necessary training to acquire skill sets. We hope the RFQ will be issued in January.''

On the other hand, RC Gharat, chief negotiator of the PAPs said that villagers from 12 villages have already supported the government's package. ''I strongly feel that villagers from five villages, who have raised objections, will come on board after carefully going though the compensation package offered by the government,'' he noted.

Mahendra Patil, sarpanch of Pargaon said as of now villagers are not ready to accept the government's package citing the ongoing campaign for gram panchayat elections. ''Decision whether or not to accept the government package will be possible after December 24 when elections will be over,'' he added.
