Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) eastern region has formed three focus committees to help the process of industrialisation in West Bengal.

Addressing his first press conference as chairman CII (ER), Biswadip Gupta said, the strategy committee would provide inputs for drawing up the roadmap for industrialisation in West Bengal.

A separate committee would be set up for media strategy""to communicate and promote industrialisation--and the third committee would deal with affirmative action.

The committee on affirmative action would strengthen the corporate social responsibility of the industry in terms of improving the competitiveness of the marginalised groups, providing them a background for competing effectively in the market and making them potential employees by ensuring them skills to work efficiently in the private sector.

Gupta said, the members in the eastern region would be encouraged to take up 2-3 projects in the villages where they operate and improve the lives of the people. CII (ER) has already rolled out its affirmative action initiatives in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Bihar and West Bengal.

Gupta said, the chamber would look forward to working with the governments in these states to further inclusive growth.

The confederation would also focus intently on micro small and medium scale industries (MSMEs). Around 70 per cent of CII's members in the eastern region comprised the MSMEs.
