CII meet on logistics in Chennai from today

 Addressing a press conference, N Kumar, chairman, CII National Council on Logistics, said, "Logistics plays a crucial role in the economic development and in enhancing the competitiveness of the manufacturing, services and agriculture sectors of the economy. Supply chain mangement is evolving as the most significant value driver for companies to derive competitive advantage."

 "The four day Logistics 2003 exhibition will showcase a broad spectrum of services, equipments, products and solutions in logistics, supply chain, transportation, material handling, storage, warehousing, information technology and inventory mangement," he said.

 Kumar added,"Given the emerging business and technological trends there are possibilities for the adoption of innovative logistics solutions specifically designed for India. In addition there is a requirement for an intergrated strategy towards developing logistics and IT infrastructure and also enhancing its industry base. A planned phased approach for intergrated logistics is needed."

 The white paper on logistics titled 'Roadmap for logistics excellence: need to break the unholy equilibrium' will be released at Logistics 2003.

 The white paper provides a roadmap for India to move towards logistics excellence. The paper begins with an assessment of the overall performance of logistics in India, followed by a framework of an "unholy equilibrium" that seeks to explain where India is in terms of logistics. The paper also provides sector wise action agenda as the roadmap towards logistics excellence.

 N Viswanadham, deputy executive director, The Logistics Institute-Asia Pacific, Singapore would present the theme paper for Logistics 2003.

 The theme paper addresses the state of the Indian logistics industry, emerging logistics trends and opportunities, opportunities for innovative logistics services in India and also addresses the development strategy for Indian logistics through a cluster approach.
