The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to train members of the SC/ST communities for entreprenuership.

The MoU is in accordance with the CII's affirmative action plan.

Under the agreement, the CII will sponsor a Micro Enterprise Development Programme, in Lucknow from May 28 to June 27, for the SC/ST youth with at least high school qualification.

"With this launch, we intend to focus on inclusive growth, in which individuals will have opportunities for personal and economic growth," said Kiron Chopra, former chairman, CII (UP Council).

The move gains significance after Mayawati's return to power in Uttar Pradesh, this time with an absolute majority.

The CII-EDII agreement is being seen as one of the first developmental programmes she had promised weaker sections, in the state before coming to power.
