CII- Tamil Nadu to set up training centres

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) "" Tamil Nadu is planning to set up a skill training centre each at Madurai, Tiruchy, Coimbatore and Chennai. As part of its first phase plan, CII will provide training skills to over 40,000 students in Tamil Nadu in 2008.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, Manikam Ramaswami, chairman, CII- Tamil Nadu state council, said under this initiative, training would be provided to 1,500 lift operators and truck drivers at Madurai in association with TVS. About 1,000 welding operators would receive training in Trichy, 1,500 machine operators at Coimbatore and 1,000 building workers at Chennai.

 

Besides, the CII would provide a continuous upgradation programme for around 10,000 unskilled workers to gain skills in emerging service sectors such as e-Publishing, BPO, healthcare, and hospitality. It would also help students pursue academic education.

CII would train and mentor over 5,000 students to get them industry ready. It would organise 'CEO Speak Series' for 15,000 students to enhance industry-institute interactions.

Faculty training programmes for 1,000 teachers in soft skills along with major universities too would be conducted.

The CII would also train about 5,000 teachers in information and communication technology during the first phase, said Ramaswami.
