Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), a strong proponent of enactment of the Uttarakhand Agriculture Production Marketing (Development and Regulation) Act, 2011, better known as APMC Act, has welcomed the enactment of the Act saying it will ensure a healthy growth in the agriculture sector.

“CII supports APMC Act since 2006 as it addresses the requirements of the changing market dynamics. While on one side, there is a need of regulatory and operators’ framework required for functioning of traditional mandis, there was also a requirement of ensuring participation of corporate and consortiums that may operate in the State and help in ensuring growth in agriculture,” CII Uttarakhand state council said.

CII further said “CII has been taking up the issue of implementation of APMC act in the state since long. The act will regulate the sale and purchase of agri-produce, establish proper marketing system and will allow better gains for farmers”. CII congratulated the state government for enactment of the Act as it will encourage much needed private investment in Agriculture.

With Governor Margaret Alva giving her assent, the APMC Act had come into effect in the hill state recently. For the implementation of APMC Act, the government is now working to prepare its bylaws. Within one month time, the bylaws of the APMC Act will be ready.
