CITU-affiliated Steel Employees Trade Union and Rourkela Contractor workers union today threatened to call a two day "total strike" in Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on Feb 19 and 20.

The trade unions have threatened to call the strike demanding an immediate wage settlement of over 1 lakh regular and 75,000 contract workers of Steel Authority Of India (SAIL).

CITU General Secretary Bishnu Mohanty said the workers would go on the two-day strike if SAIL management failed to meet their demands for 28 per cent Minimum Guaranted Benefit (MGB), 3 and 3.5 per cent increment and 46 per cent fringe benefits to the workers at par with SAIL executives.

Meanwhile, INTUC led Rourkela Shramik Sangh has also threatened to call a strike after February 18 demanding wage revision.
