With West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee taking a tough stand against unionisation of employees in the information technology sector, trade unions have asked the UPA government to bring a legislation on the rights of the employees in the sector.

CPI(M)-backed CITU, which is learnt to have taken up the issue with the labour secretary, plans to discuss it at the Indian Labour Conference next month.

"We want the legislation to cover all aspects like mandating an eight-hour workday, job security and right to from a union and to strike work," CITU President and CPI(M) Politburo member MK Pandhe told Business Standard.
