City Pulse institute launches degree courses in film making

City Pulse Institute of Film & Television (CPIFT), Gandhinagar has become the first institution in India to offer a bachelor's degree course in acting and master's degree courses in film direction, script writing, cinematography, production design, audiography and production management. The courses are set to commence from this academic year beginning June 2010.

"At CPIFT, Gandhinagar, the course in acting will cover acting for films, television, theatre and radio. The most important that the acting students will be guided in auditioning, compiling a portfolio and creating a comprehensive show reel before they are awarded the degree from Hemchandrachraya North Gujarat University, Patan, Gujarat. Presently all other institutes offer only diplomas in film making," Ashok Purohit, promoter – director of CPIFT, Gandhinagar said.

 

Established by City Pulse Educational Charitable Trust, Gandhinagar, CPIFT will offer these courses in affiliation with Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan, (a NAAC accredited State University). The institute is governed by a Council that includes eminent personalities like Asha Parekh, B.V. Doshi, Govind Nihalani, Govind Mishra, Ila Arun, Komal Nahta, K.K. Raina, Kumudini Lakhia, Manmohan Shetty, Vijay Ranchan and Ashok Purohit. Besides, a large number of guest faculty and visiting faculty from the industry including Nandita Das, Raj Kumar Hirani, Rakyesh Mehra, Satish Kaushik, Basni Kaul, and other professionals have consented to provide continuous inputs in the form of sharing valuable practical experience, a release from CPIFT said.

"“There are over 300 national, regional and local TV channels. Television industry has grown leaps and bounds and has many corporate entities investing in it. The employment for this entertainment industry has already been over 30 lakh people. The radio has also reached nearly 99 per cent in India," film producer Manmohan Shetty, a member of Governing Council of CPIFT, founder of Adlabs studio and currently president of Producers Guild of India said.

The City Pulse multiplex at Gandhinagar, established 15 years ago, also includes an amphitheatre, a concert hall, a studio, an art gallery, a pavilion, a teaching block, a bookstore and a discotheque. City Pulse has applied for a television channel (Cultural), which is under process.
