The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Region (MMRDA) will allocate Rs 1,113 crore for widening roads and building flyovers.
A decision to this effect was taken at the MMRDA’s 129th meeting chaired by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan. “Easier and faster connectivity is crucial for the overall development of any region,” he said. “The metropolitan region deserves the same, as much as the city of Mumbai.”
The CM added this area was identified as a growth centre. “To give it due recognition, we need to put in all the efforts as far as road connectivity is concerned.”
Among the other decisions, the authority formally accorded implementation of the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link Project on a public-private basis to the MMRDA.
The authority has also decided to hold public consultation programme as far as the development of Uttan-Gorai-Manori area in suburban Mumbai as a tourist destination is concerned.
Further, it has approved the installation of noise barriers on all the roads and flyovers constructed by MMRDA in the wake of the successful installation of noise barriers in the Bandra-Kurla Complex recently where noise pollution has been reduced up to 60 decibels from 75 decibels.
