The government has decided to levy the Clean Energy Cess, announced in the Budget, from next month.
In a notification issued Tuesday evening, the Central Board of Excise and Customs had said that all coal producers would have to register with the designated officer within 30 days and pay cess on the removal of the produce from their mines. The new levy will be paid on the basis of self assessment. The government has also mandated that the producers show the cess separately in the invoice or bill issued by them.
