CLIP not a compulsorily chargeable service: Trai
BS Reporter / Mumbai August 28, 2007
The telecom regulator has directed the service providers not to make Caller Line Identification Presentation (CLIP) a compulsory chargeable facility.

Even though the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has stated that there was no justification in making CLIP facility a compulsory chargeable, it refrained from mandating a cost-based tariff for CLIP facility.

In a notification issues today, TRAI stated that certain operators were providing CLIP services as a compulsory chargeable Value Added Service (VAS).

CLIP is the service that enables users to view the numbers of incoming calls on their mobile phones. This helps a customer either to receive or accept the calls, and CLIP gained importance when incoming calls were also billed.
