Concerned over militant trade union movement affecting regular industrial activities in Haldia for the last one month, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Thursday asked trade unions to avoid such movements in the interest of industry. Replying to a calling attention motion moved by the Congress member Asit Mal in the Assembly, Bhattacharjee said that it was a matter of concern the way such movements were organised last month at Tata Chemicals Ltd in Haldia.

Such incidents would affect industrial investment in the state, Bhattacharjee said. Workers under the banner of CITU launched a movement last month demanding hike in wages. As the management refused to accept the demand, the workers resorted to sit-in demonstration which forced stalling of production.
